When you are in Rome, it is a tradition to toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain. If you throw it over your left shoulder you will come back to Rome one day.

As a result, an amazing €1.4 million were thrown into the fountain in 2016.

All the money is donated to Caritas, a charity organization which supports a supermarket program for Rome’s needy.

Here’s a fun travel fact for you.

The shortest flight for which tickets are available for purchase and which is scheduled is 2.7km [1.7mi]. The flight is between the Scottish Islands Westray and Papa Westray. It takes about 1 minute.

The shortest international flight was only added in 2016 and connects Germany and Switzerland. The 13 miles flight goes between Switzerland’s St Gallen-Altenrhein Airport and Germany’s Friedrichshafen Airport.
